Marriage | She married John White on 21 September 1985 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.1 |
Death | She died on 23 May 2018 at age 59 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. |
Name | As of 21 September 1975, Janice Carol Dehod was also known as Janice Carol White.1 |
Obituary | The obituary for Janice Carol Dehod appeared in at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre . Janice Dehod left his world a few days short of her 60th birthday after a two-year battle with a rare cancer. Janice was the youngest of the Dehod clan including her parents Jim and Irene Dehod and many intelligent, boisterous, opinionated aunts and uncles and many cousins. She learned from her family at an early age solid values and how to discuss issues intelligently, with a precise brutal logic, and with passion. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Bruce. She will be remembered and loved by her children Leighton and Elsbeth, her husband John White, her greater family, and her dear friends. Janice displayed a fascination and creative passion with hybridizing flowers, gardens, art, architecture, patterns, colour, clay / ceramic art, printmaking, drawings, visual patterns, music and design and so many other creative endeavours. She enjoyed creating beauty, as well as continually learning with, and mentoring others. The Dehod streak of brilliance and passion glowed brightly in her creative endeavours, family focus, and love of beauty. Her constant love of art, design, and ceramics was demonstrated by the beauty she created in her two homes in Winnipeg and at Echo Bay. She learned to be an avid bargain hunter from her family slowly considering things, looking for bargains, quality and value and cruising the stores and second-hand stores accumulating sets of fine china porcelain, art, and crystal for pennies. Janice studied art and architecture in the 1970s and 80s in the Grant Park High Art Room, Argyle High School, the University of Manitoba and later in her various studio spaces. She was one of the founding members of Ace Art creating a gallery for emergent artists. In 1988 the studio was packed up to make time for a family. For two decades she became a knowledgeable and fierce advocate for the education and accommodation of special needs children in the education system. She later returned to University studying ceramics, printmaking, digital art, art history, film, and education with a home ceramic studio. She filled her life and the world around her family with a rich visual tapestry of ceramics, glass, gardens, art, and beauty. Janice loved to travel, initially to Fort Myers Beach, then to Italy, other European destinations and China. She loved her family cottage at the Lake of the Woods creating wonderful wildflower gardens and helping renovate the cottages there into a Lake House. Janice’s attention to detail and careful purchases in building the Lake House was a labour of love. She loved the sunrise over the lake and exploring the Lake perched in the bow of the boat taking in the world. Janice was generous with her ideas and her love of family, sharing her inquisitive creative passions with those around her. Janice lived her life true to her values and passed away at home. Janice requested that there be no “sappy obituaries”, formal funeral, or memorial service for her. In lieu of flowers please visit a Manitoba gallery or craft store and buy some Manitoba Arts and Crafts in support of her fellow artists. |
